This is definitely the first thing that comes to the mind of many tutors. Tutoring requires a high level of patience. Some students might be uninterested or other simple takes a longer time to absorb certain concepts. We know that students with different aptitudes requires different amount of time to understand a topic. A good tutor is one that can constantly engage the student and not give up easily. During tuition, the tutor needs to be able to relate with the students on his academic problems. More than that, being empathetic allows the student to become comfortable and hence promote better interaction between the two. This is not possible in school as most of the time, the teachers are the one speaking and they do not have the time to listen to the problems of every student in class. During tuition, listening to the problems of students is key to discovering their actual weaknesses or conceptual misunderstandings. Being able to listen and relate are important traits as they help portray a person as someone that genuinely care for others.
